Andrew, at this time a prime field hand could sell for anywhere between 700 and 1100 dollars. The modern equivalent of $35,000 to $55,000.

This is absolutely intriguing-the complexity of the relationship between the black slaves and their masters is something that is almost unfathomable. The Masters had to think of their slaves as subhuman, but it is almost inevitable that some type of relationship would be built, and it is obvious here that a master was inevitably drawn to the companionship of this man Welcome.

Another amazing thing about this is the amount of money offered as a reward.

$100 at this time period = 5 oz. of Gold

5 oz. of Gold today = about $5000

Amazing.
